Oils and Liniments have been in existence for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A liniment is an alcohol-based formula, one in which herbs have been soaked in alcohol for an extended period of time. An oil is created in a similar manner, but no alcohol is used.
These special formulas have a long standing tradition with martial arts healers who would have many liniments available for different types of injuries and ailments. These liniments and oils are used to treat bruises, swelling, muscle pulls, tendon ligament strains and tears, joint sprains, stiff joints, bone breaks and other injuries resulting from training.
This was in an era when martial arts and traditional eastern medicine were taught together. A healthy lifestyle for participants was the primary objective.
